Ferrosilicon Description
Ferrosilicon is one type of ferrosilicon product, mainly lumps,
which are easier to store than ferrosilicon powder. The silicon in
ferrosilicon blocks has a good affinity with oxygen and is often
used as a deoxidizer. In fact, it can also be used as an indolent
and spheroidizing agent in the cast iron industry.
Used as inoculant and spheroidizer in cast iron industry. Cast iron
is an important metal material in modern industry. It is cheaper
than steel and easy to be melted and smelted. It has excellent
casting properties and much better shockability than steel,
especially nodular cast iron whose mechanical properties reach or
approach those of steel. Adding a certain amount of ferrosilicon in
cast iron can prevent the formation of carbide in iron and promote
the precipitation and spheroidization of graphite, so ferrosilicon
is an important inoculant and spheroidizing agent in the production
of ductile iron. Used as reducing agent in ferroalloy production.
Not only the chemical affinity between silicon and oxygen is great,
but also the high silicon iron has low carbon content. Therefore,
high silicon ferrosilicon is a kind of reducing agent commonly used
in the production of low carbon ferroalloy in ferroalloy industry.
Ferrosilicon Applications:
1. Ferro Silicon Alloy is used in steelmaking and foundries as a
source of silicon in production of carbon steels, stainless steels,
and other ferrous alloys for its deoxidizing properties, to prevent
loss of carbon from the molten steel (so called blocking the heat);
ferromanganese, spiegeleisen, silicon calcium, and many other
materials are used for the same purpose
2. Ferro Silicon Alloy can be used to make other ferroalloys.Ferro Silicon Alloy is also sed for manufacture of silicon, corrosion-resistant and
high-temperature resistant ferrous silicon alloys, and silicon
steel for electromotors and transformer cores. In manufacture of
cast iron, ferrosilicon is used for inoculation of the iron to
accelerate graphitization. In arc welding, ferrosilicon can be
found in some electrode coatings.
3. Ferro Silicons Alloya is for manufacture of prealloys like
magnesium ferrosilicon (FeSiMg), used for modification of melted
malleable iron; FeSiMg contains between 3-42% of magnesium and
small amounts of rare earth metals. Ferro Silicon Alloy
also important as an additive to cast irons for controlling the
initial content of silicon.
