The crystal structure characteristics of silicon carbide itself
determine that silicon carbide has the characteristics of high
hardness, wear resistance and strong toughness. The hardness of
silicon carbide is extremely strong, only lower than several
superhard materials. The hardness of silicon carbide has a wide
range, which is the hardness of silicon carbide crystal and its
crystal axis direction. The hardness of silicon carbide varies
greatly in different crystal plane directions, and the hardness
gradually decreases with increasing temperature. The shape of
silicon carbide itself and other factors have an impact on the
toughness of silicon carbide.
