Surface modification is one of the effective ways to improve the
performance of graphite electrodes. Graphite electrodes are prone
to structural damage and electrochemical reactions during the cycle
process, resulting in a decrease in electrode surface area and
electrochemical activity. Therefore, in terms of surface
modification, chemical treatment, coating materials or introduction
of functional groups can be used to enhance the surface stability
and activity of graphite electrodes and extend the cycle life of
the battery.
Structural optimization is an important means to improve the
performance of graphite electrodes. Graphite electrodes are usually
prepared by tableting or coating processes to form different pore
structures and conductive paths. Optimizing the pore structure of
the electrode can improve the ion transport and energy storage
efficiency of the battery, reduce the electrochemical reaction
during the charge and discharge process, and thus extend the cycle
life of the battery. In addition, the design of a reasonable
electrode structure and current collector shape can reduce the
internal stress and electrode loss of the battery, and improve the
charge and discharge performance and cycle life of the battery.
